I love family. There’s something unique that gets expressed within you when you’re around family. Whether that’s your immediate family or relatives, the feeling is different than with any other people you love. And yes, the feeling isn’t always a good one, but when it is, there’s no comparison.

My family portrait sessions are a real favourite for me. I simply love how lucky I am to be allowed in to witness and forever hold each family’s love and emotions within a photograph. That’s pretty darn special if you ask me.

I’ve become closer with my own family this year and am grateful for it. I feel more alive and loved because of the openness of feelings expressed and shared. My mom and dad, pictured above, have become my personal heroes by showing up for me time and time again when I have needed support, encouragement, and safety. This has to be my favourite image of the two of them together. I don’t know what year it was taken, (it was before I was born) but they are dressed for a Hallowe’en party. I think my mom looks so pretty here that I have a hard time taking my eyes off her. I just love her cheekbones and doe-like eyes. I also love that she looks so happy in this image.

I realized awhile ago that I don’t have many pictures of my family around my home and I’ve decided to change this fact. Seeing where I come from and those I love around me has become even more important to me as of late. The image above is going to be printed big to 20×20 and hung with care very soon.
